2 MINS READ
to my stranger
a poem

Nadine...
a friend i first met at a hackathon september of 2025. she took my contact, but never reached out.
weeks later, we meet again, and this time, i take her contact. i hesitate to reach out for a while only to spot her whatsapp stories indicating she had saved my contact prior.
i reached out almost immediately, and we have talked almost every day since then, knowing the tiniest details of each other's day, and life...
on a good day, she dares me to write her a poem. i tell her she would fall in love, for i would write her something she hasn't read before. here it goes:
it's 9, i'm up, craving sardines…
salads, toast? oh wait - noodles!
egg in water, i watch as it hardens…
ding! phone beeps - new message: i tingle
tis her… sweet dame, good heavens, Nadine!
I smile, get busy… oh god, i moodle.
it's 10. work calls, i must scurry…
“hey, Nadine, talk later, okay?” toodles!
at work, i bury, lame, my worry,
my nightmare, my fear, my hurdle.
for if my soul you dared to curry,
you’d find, for you, i’d be a poodle.
she did fall in love. i did too. but the universe had other plans for us.
in a weird twist of fate, we went from strangers to best friends to lovers and now back to strangers.
