2 MINS READ
merry, not-so-merry, christmas

i have taken a much-needed break from everything — school, work, social media. i still have a couple of things to do every now and then, but the pressure is at its lowest since the year began.
a few months back, i muted and unfollowed everyone across all ‘active’ social media. i hid whatsapp statuses, deleted dormant accounts, and uninstalled most apps, including x and substack. it seemed like everything was always screaming for my attention, and i finally decided to stop listening.
this holiday, however, i’ve been revisiting the noise. i reinstalled a few apps just to check in, keep up with trends, and indulge a little in the things i ran away from.
i see that my friends are doing okay. they’re having fun — well, as far as social media perceptions go. the holiday memes are everywhere and they’re killing me. a couple of years back, i would have been a ‘sourcer’ and promoter of those memes. to be fair, i did indulge a little this time; i reshared a few.
but there’s not a lot to miss, not in the way of trends. the writings on substack still feel subpar, filled with ai slop. maybe it’s just the lot i followed, or maybe the signal-to-noise ratio is just gone.
i had a giant meal today — giant by my standards, anyway. i still haven’t finished it. i’ve slept a lot, worked a little, and now i’m back to my work desk. i didn’t feel much excitement, but one could argue that not much excites me these days.
it’s just another day in the calendar, i guess.
merry christmas🎄
